You've heard from the professor already, now hear what the students have to say:
I really wish I had something like the Economics World Cup when I was in high school. I remember feeling totally lost when writing my Common App. It was very difficult to prove I actually cared about economics beyond just grades or a personal statement. Everyone talks about 'passion,' but how do you show you have more of it than 30 thousand other students?

I didn’t know about the Economics World Cup when I was in school, and I wish I had. Opportunities like that give you clarity early on about whether this path is really for you.

My favourite part of competing in the Economics World Cup was the development project because it felt like playing a game. I could also tell a lot of work had been put into creating it, and it certainly had a lot of application to real life.
The Ecogenie,
St. George’s – The British International School
The Economics World Cup was a great opportunity to understand how economists guide projects, and it helped us understand what a future in this field could look like. Thank you for that.
The Boom n Busters,
Halcyon London International School
The Economics World Cup has been a fantastic way for all of our team to cooperate and learn new skills, so thank you for this opportunity!
Wolves of Mussoorie,
Woodstock International School
We believe that the skills we have developed from participating in the Economics World Cup are far more transferable to real-life economic work than what any textbook could teach.
Long River Capital Management,
Institut Auf dem Rosenberg, Switzerland
The case study was challenging, thought-provoking, and captivating! The Economics World Cup shows how significant economic decisions really are, and how they can shape entire countries. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience!
The Market Failures,
Eerde International Boarding School
Working with my classmates in the Economics World Cup has been a very fun experience, and it has been great to see how the stuff we learn in class connects to actual decisions companies and countries companies make.
Team Megyann,
Raffles Girls' School
The Economics World Cup was a rewarding experience that really opened our eyes to how economics works in the real world. We are glad we got to be part of it, and we definitely enjoyed it.
United Econ,
United World College Costa Rica
Taking part in the Economics World Cup as a group and roleplaying as consultants was a new experience for us, but it brought us closer together. In the end, we are proud of what we accomplished and all that we learned.

Yale Young Economics Scholars,

I am still exploring different things, but I have recently felt that economics is the path I want to pursue on a more serious level. The EWC has been a great starting point in economics-related extracurriculars for me, helping me understand economic thinking rather than just learning more theory, which I think should be the focus of every economics competition
The APH Pengwins,
The Academy at Penguin Hall
Although none of us had prior experience in economics before entering, we all feel that we have come out of it better. The Economics World Cup gave us a sense of what it is like to be actual economists, while also offering leadership opportunities and insight into what effective teamwork looks like. We believe we have grown tremendously through competing, and we are very proud to have been part of such a fantastic international competition.
Coligopoly,
European International School
At first, I didn't know what to expect going into the Economics World Cup since it was the first economics competition I had entered. But it exceeded all my expectations. The case was realistic, and it felt like I was actually a consultant working on it.
Money Monkeys,
Oberoi International School
Participating in the Economics World Cup has been an intense yet incredibly rewarding experience for our team, and we have had the opportunity to stretch our understanding of economics and ethics far beyond the classroom. We are proud of how far we have come, and even more exicted about where this experience will take us next.

There was no 'right answer' so to say. It was a good change to the sort of stuff we're expected to do in school.

What I valued most wasn't the competition itself, but how it redefined what academic excellence can look like.
2024 EWC Finalist
In class, I am normally the quiet one who enjoys econ but never really speaks up. EWC changed that. Being on a team forced me to voice my ideas, especcialy because of the time pressure.
2024 EWC Finalist
Most competitions test what you know. The EWC tested how well I could think. It asked questions Google couldn't answer, and that made it feel awesome and worthwhile.

Hear what the students have to say:
I took Physics and History in high school, but doing the EWC made me realize my passion for Development Economics. Now I major in political science.

I really enjoyed participating in the Economics World Cup. Funnily, in the week of the competition, I found myself pushing back FIFA to work on our team solution.

I like how the case studies are very creative (but still related to real life) and open-ended; It provides us with space and flexibility to devise our solution. It also helped me realize that even basic services such as fire protection required immensely complicated decision-making processes behind the scenes.
